Optimising the models

Siege Era Walls Design Amendments

I've recent notes on changes needed to the siege era Design. To be updated

Subject: Re: Update
Hello Mark,
I suggest that -
The ravelin needs a shallow ditch outside it
The sentinel box on the walls needs to go
The corbels below the crenelations on the walls need to go
There are far too many crenelations on the walls and gate
The squared off bit and corbels on the gate front need to go
Just leave a rounded arch with visible but not fancy voussoirs
Move the drawbridge chains and openings outwards to where the edge of the squared off bit is now (and remove squared off bit)
Move the window slits above outwards too
Put a triangular gable popping up from the top of the gate and give it a chimney to one side or the other, I suggest the right
The drawbridge needs lengthened and possibly very slightly widened
The drawbridge needs the hint of a stone double arch to either side on which it would have rested.
Hope this makes sense and isn't too far from the truth,

Verold 3d viewer

In an interesting turn of events Ive been contacted by the CTO of Verold enquiring about my workflow method!

to me
Shaun,

Your scan in Verold Studio is amazing!

Could you tell me a bit more about your pipeline and the tools you used to create the scan? I've recently had several inquiries from museums interested in interactive exhibits, and your scan is one of the best I've seen - quality vs polycount.

I'm actually going to be speaking at Museums and the Web next month, and with your permission I'd like to show your model as an example of what is possible - using a combination of scanning + custom retopology.

Ross

Interface Test 8

3D Display Options

As I have established WebGL appears to the best performing and optimium approach to displaying 3d data for web or interactive use, the P3D.in platform is solid and while polycount isnt much of an issue it has strict limitations on texture size to a maximum of 1024x1024 dpi.

Alternatively I've been looking at the verold Studio platform as well a proprietary codeset which I'm still trying to impliment. Verold takes a little more setting up in order to prep the materials and lighting on the models but definetly the result is superior - also there it has support for embedding models on facebook!

Then

- tidy up FABLab Concept sheets
- Workflow analysis 2 sheet
- digital plan of action/presentation sheets

Workflow Analysis

A major part of this project is processing the LIDAR scan footage of Bishops gate - working with point cloud data can be tedious because of how large they can be - in order to work with this data it is necessary to sub sample it  - which can mean a loss of detail - to compensate for this I will be in parallel using 123D catch to produce high resolution meshs of specific elements such as the figure heads and the emblem plaques on the archway - this data can then be projected & combined to create highly detailed & accurate assets.
